Guys Night Out


Guys in Annie Warbucks are invited to a Guys Night Out hosted by Kole Ryan on Friday, March 1st after the show.

The overnight get together will be held at Cascade Park Baptist Church Youth House, 1201 SE 136th Avenue, Vancouver 98683.

Please pick up on Saturday morning, March 2nd, by 10am.

Closing Show Sold Out...

...or at least close!  So this is a warning to all of you with a parent pass who were counting on using it to see the last Annie Warbucks show ~ don't count on it!  It is very likely Sunday's show will sell out and parent pass holders will not get a seat.

As of tonight there are 77 tickets left.  If you want a guaranteed seat on Sunday I encourage you to buy a ticket.

As of today we are at 1348 tickets sold.  The shows on this Friday and Saturday night have the greatest number of seats still available.

Lots and lot of kids sold tickets this last week ~ thank you!!

Sunday Worship

We will be having worship together on the Sunday of our closing show, 3/3.  Journey's, High School Youth Pursuing Excellence (HYPE) is putting the service together for us.

Worship together is always sweet!  We will meet at the Washburn at 12:00 and will have an hour together before our formal call time of 1:00.

We will not have a worship time at the theater on 2/24. 

Seeing The Other Journey Shows

Every Journey student has a free ticket for every winter Journey show except the one they are cast or crew in.  Don't forget to reserve your seat as these tickets are NOT good at the door.

Snoopy opens tonight just like us.  They are running this weekend only.  So, everyone in Annie will sadly miss seeing Snoopy in Beaverton.

I have got my show tickets for HONK! on Sunday 3/10, their closing show.   I have also got tickets for Beauty and the Beast on Friday, 3/15.  It would be great to have as many people from Annie Warbucks there on those dates as possible!

Most importantly, book your seat as they are both great Journey shows!

Tickets Sales

Our ticket sales for Annie Warbucks are at 949 tonight!  Online ticket sales will close first thing in the morning.  Let friends and family know that tickets will be available at the door!  All tickets sold at the door are an additional $2.

Friday is Opening Night!

Call time Friday night for cast and crew is 6:00 PM.  Our show is at 7:00 PM

Parents who need to set up in the lobby can come as early as 5:00 PM.  If you bring your children with you, they MUST STAY WITH YOU!

Parents working backstage, green room, props, tech etc. should not have non-cast/crew children with them during the show.  Please let me know if this is an issue for you.

Parents be sure and dress up to celebrate opening night!  I have decided to wear red every day this week.  I think I will opening night as well.

Our opening night party is directly after the show in the cafeteria.  There is no cost for attending.  All families members are welcome to attend.  Journey families from classes and other shows are also welcome to attend.

If you bought a parent pass but have not picked it up yet, you can do so at Will Call Friday night.  Everyone with a parent pass needs to also check in at Will Call and get their seat ticket for the night.

Parent Pass holders cannot enter the theater without a ticket for any show.  Starting tomorrow, if you have a parent pass and want to be seated for a show, please sign in on the Parent Pass List at Will Call.  If the show is not sold out you will be called by name, in order of the sign in, and given a seat ticket(s) just before the show begins.

Call time for Saturday's show is 4:00 PM so we can take formal cast and crew photos.  These photos are on the $5 photo CD that you can purchase with a show coupon.  For those of you who purchased a school day meal, it will be served after photos and before the show.  Everyone else, be sure and bring something to eat.

When you are logged into your Journey account on our website, you can go to the Annie Warbucks show page and send a customized email, letting people know about the show.  It's a great way to encourage people to purchase tickets!

Today our total number of tickets sold to Annie Warbucks is 632!  That's about 100 at each show.  That leaves some great seats still available!  You can sell tickets up until our closing weekend and get credit in our ticket contest.

Our school day show has been cancelled however several of you had already purchased the meal for that day.  We are going to serve that meal to those who have purchased it on Saturday 2/23 as kids come early for photos.  It will be served before the show that evening.

Pizza on Friday

We are selling pizza by the slice ($1.50) at the beginning of rehearsal on Friday (2/15)  to be served during the dinner break.

Costume Parade

Our Costume Parade is this Saturday from 1:00 - 2:00.  Cast pick up time on Saturday is 2:00.

Cast members must wear their show under garments under their clothes to rehearsal for ease in changing for the costume parade.

Please bring your shoes and socks (if you have them) to wear with your costumes so our Director and Costumers can see the total look of our show.

Vancouver East's Spring Session


Here is information on our next session to help you plan your spring!

Spring session in Vancouver East will begin Tuesday, March 19th.  Class will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Lifepoint Church.

Our spring show will be Annie Get Your Gun.  Auditions are March 22nd, 4:00 - 7:00 with the location TBA.  Callbacks will be 9:00 - 1:00 on March 23rd.

We have no class during spring break, Tuesday April 2nd and we will have no class on Tuesday, May 21st during VE's dress week.  

We will have no rehearsals either weekend of spring break.  

The Vancouver East class Showcase will be Tuesday, June 4th at 7:00 PM.

There is NO BREAK between the showcase of winter session and the first class day of spring session. 

Character Shoes

For those of you looking for character shoes, here a few places you can find them locally.

I have shopped often at Kara's (at 14020 NE Fourth Plain Road Suite F).  It is a dance studio and they have a consignment shop.  They carry all kinds of dance shoes at second hand prices.  They don't open until 4:00 in the afternoon.

Another place in Vancouver for new shoes in The Competitive Edge (10411 NE Fourth Plain Rd  Vancouver, WA 98662 (360) 256-1089).  They give a 10% discount (maybe more) if you let them know you are a Journey students.

We've also shopped at The Leotard (2432 NE Martin Luther King Blvd Portland(503) 284-9244).  They have a great selection of shoes and sizes.

Sock and Shoe List

All cast should wear black shoes.

Boys -- wear plain black dress socks with NO athletic logos visible with shoes on -- prefer not ankle socks.
solid colored shorts and t-shirts are good for undergarments.
black shoes, either soft soled dress shoes or dance shoes

Girls -- wear skin colored tights or hose.
solid camies and shorts are good for underclothes -- dark colors are best unless otherwise noted
black character shoes

ORPHANS -- white ankle socks (the kind that fold down) and black shoes -- (soft-soled mary janes would be great but dance shoes would work) 

Mrs. Kelly, Grace, Mrs. Pattersen, Christina Grace, and Mrs. Doyle -- light colored underthings may be necessary.

Ticket Sales

We have sold 300 tickets to Annie Warbucks so far.  That is great ~ and yet it still leaves lots of good open seats to sell!  Each show at the Washburn seats about 360 guests.  So, keep working on selling tickets, it's great to play to a full house!

Valentine Cookies at Parent Meeting

These great show-cookie, Valentine Cookies will be on sale at rehearsal on Friday and at our parent meeting on Saturday.  The Vancouver/Vancouver East Improv teams made them, decorated them and now are selling them to earn their way to the Improv Competition in Chicago this summer.



Cookies are $3.00 and just the right way to say Happy Valentines Day to a teacher, a child, a or your special someone!

Congrat Ads Due Saturday

Thinking through and writing your congratulatory ad this week BEFORE the parent meeting on Saturday is a good idea!  I always have a hard time coming up with the right words while under pressure to get the ad done at a parent meeting!

You can type out the ad and bring it in with your coupon or hand write it on the coupon, either way works.

Anyone can submit a congrat ad ~ often extended family members (grandparents, siblings, etc) like to give a shout out to their special person in the show.

Congrat ads can also be placed "parent-to-parent" if you would like to acknowledge someones efforts to get this show to the stage.

And, if you would like to place a larger ad you get 30% off the price on the program ad form.  Parents have placed these before for special events (birthday, graduation), for best friends in the show, first show, last show etc.

All ads for the programs, including congrat ads, are due this weekend.

Secret Pals


Secret Pals
Secret pals is an optional fun thing that all cast and crew members may sign up to participate in.
If you participate, you bring an encouraging note or gift($1 or less) to each show day(4 total) to encourage and cheer on your secret pal during the show run. On the last day(closing show) you bring a gift to the strike party that cost between $4 and $5 dollars. This last gift at the strike party is when you reveal yourself to your secret pal!   Remember to keep your secret pal a secret!

Everyone received a secret pal form in the first parent meeting packet, I will also have some at rehearsal this weekend. 

Most cast and crew member have already filled out and turned in their form.  The final due date for Secret Pal forms is Saturday February 9th, the same day as our 2nd parent meeting.

2nd Parent Meeting Reminder

Our Annie Warbucks 2nd Parent Meeting is this Saturday, 2/9, at Lifepoint Church from 11:00 - 1:00.  This is a required meeting for cast and crew parents.

I also sent out an email reminder with our meeting agenda attached.  I will have copies of the agenda at the meeting for you.

Breakfast for Cast and Crew on Saturday!

For Cast and Crew members that can arrive by 8:30 AM on Saturday 2/9, we will be serving you a hot, yummy pancake breakfast!

Come in the back doors as usual and head for the gym.  We will be serving out of the kitchen serving window.

Car Pool Notification for Dress and Beyond!

Our Green Room chair is getting ready to put together the cleaning schedule for move-in, dress rehearsals and shows.  Cast and crew members will be assigned cleaning duties at least once during this time.  Kids need to stay after move-in/dress/shows to fulfill cleaning responsibilities.  Cleaning takes about 20 minutes after kids are out of costume.

If you are planning to car pool and your kids need to be on the same cleaning day as those they are riding with, you must put in that request to Noelle Martinez (dramamama.cyt@gmail.com) by Wednesday, 2/6.

Costume Fitting this Friday ~

We will be doing costume fitting during rehearsal this Friday, 2/1.  Cast members must wear shorts and a tank top under their clothing so they can comfortably change and be fitted with their show costume.

Kids will not be changing in the bathrooms.  They will be changing with costume parents and other cast members.  Please make sure their "under garments" are modest and appropriate for this setting.

We will be discussing under garments that are to be worn during the show in more detail at our 2nd parent meeting!

Program Ad Update!

Journey show programs can be very striking!  Parents have successfully built programs that have had bios and photos for every Vancouver East show.  In fact, we have had a color cover for every show but one.

To have a great program we have ad sales goals to meet.  The numbers are:
$2000 - black and white program, cast and crew listed, no photos or bios.

$2500 - black and white cover, all cast and crew listed with photos, bios and head shots.
$3000 - color cover, all cast and crew listed with photos, bios and head shots

Right now we have $1320.00 in ad sales.  The program committee is making contacts and working on ads sales.

Cast and Crew Photos, 4:00 PM, 2/23

Please make a note on your calendar ~ cast and crew photos will be taken the first Saturday of our show run, 2/23.  Cast and crew call time is changed to 4:00 PM to allow time for photos.  This is the only day of formal cast and crew photos.

Friday Rehearsal Notes

We will be selling pizza for $1.50 a slice at our rehearsal tomorrow evening.  If you are ordering, arrive a few minutes early and place your order with Levi (Stage Manager).  This helps us get through the ordering in time to start rehearsal right at 5:00.  Pizza will be delivered at our dinner break.

We will have Secret Pal forms for kids to complete Friday night.  As it is an all cast and crew call, it is a great opportunity to do so!  Please take time before rehearsal to talk over secret pals and give your student permission to participate if you choose.  Remember, Secret Pals is optional!

Rehearsal Attendance Reminder!



As a cast or crew member of Annie Warbucks (or any Journey show) you are expected to attend every rehearsal you are called.  Absences listed on your audition form were cleared and are listed on the rehearsal schedule.  These absences are excused.

If you are ill or have a family emergency and are unable to attend a rehearsal please contact me (Fredia, 360-713-7020).  These absences are also excused.

Other absences from rehearsal are not excused.  The Artistic Team will acknowledge your need to be absent, however it is not excused.  Unexcused absences are considered during the casting process and may effect your participation in future shows.

Parent Pass Note

Parents with children in the show are entitled to purchase a Parent Pass.  The pass itself is a badge with a picture of your child(ren) and the show logo.  It's a fun keepsake, helps support Journey Theater, and will allow the holder to see multiple performances of the show (subject to seating availability) for a flat fee of $25 per pass.  

Parent Passes may be purchased for the cast or crew member's parents, siblings and/or grandparents only, and each pass comes with a reserved seat in the parent pass section on Opening Night.   For all other performances, the Parent Pass holder may sign up to use an available, unsold seat.  These seats will be assigned by the box office committee just before the performance starts, by giving each pass holder on the list a ticket for an open seat, as available, in the order sign-ups were received.  In the event of a sold out performance, seats will not be available for Parent Passes.



If the Pass holder is working for his or her committee on Opening Night and will be unable to see that performance, they may reserve the seat for another performance.  Please contact the office as early as possible to make these arrangements - by email at b.maxwell@journeytheater.org, or by phone at
360-750-8550

Parent passes are not guaranteed specific seats, therefore, they may not be used to sit with paid ticket holders.  Parent Pass holders wanting to sit with family or friends attending a performance will need to purchase a ticket with that group. 

Please make a note of the deadline for Parent Pass orders, as late orders won't be accepted.

Crew Members are Called on.....

Jeff McHenry notified us at the parent meeting last Friday that he would like crew to attend all run throughs.  The dates crew need to add to their calendar are:

Friday      1/25  the run through starts at 6:45.  Crew can come at 5:00 to watch if they like.
Saturday  2/9    the run through starts at 11:00.  Again, crew can come early if they choose.
Friday      2/15  5:00 - 9:00


Crew are then called to move in, every dress rehearsal and every show.

Pizza Sales at Rehearsal

We will be selling pizza at rehearsal on these dates ~

Pizza is $1.50 a slice.  If you plan to order pizza, please be a few minutes early and place your order upon arriving so rehearsal can start at 5:00.

Sweatshirt sizes

Our Annie Warbucks pull-over hoodie sweatshirts are available in larger sizes.  There will be an increase in the cost and I will post that as soon as I know!

Rehearsal Parent Schedule

Here is the rehearsal parent schedule as I wrote it down at the parent meeting on Friday.  Please let me know if you discover any conflicts with the dates you are scheduled for.

Rehearsal parents duties include:
Supervising students - during rehearsal, at lunch break and at pick up
Picking up and serving pizza on pizza days
Facility clean up - I will have a list of specific duties for you at rehearsal

Parent Meeting Reminder

Our first parent meeting is Friday, 1/11 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM at Lifepoint Church.  This is a required meeting for cast parents.  Crew parents are invited to attend.

If you are not able to attend the Parent Meeting tomorrow night you must find a substitute to stand in for you.  One person CANNOT represent two families.  If you know a family that has both husband and wife coming to the meeting, one of them can represent your family.  We do take role at the beginning of the meeting.

Please remember to connect with the person standing in for you to get your parent packet and gather other information.  Please note all due date for coupons.

Also, we will no longer be able to accept any late orders for parent passes.

Encouragment from HYPE

Hey Everyone!!!
HYPE would love to give some encouragement this weekend, the audition process can feel very long. We all know how hard it is to wait for that dreaded list, and now that it is up, soaking in all that has happened, so here are some verses that will hopefully help you put your eyes on the Lord. Congratulations to everyone this weekend :) 

Proverbs 3:5-6 
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Annie Warbucks Cast and Crew!


Great weekend of auditions and callbacks everyone!   If you skip down and read the cast and crew list be sure and come back and read the details in these first paragraphs! 

Our first rehearsal is Friday, 1/11 from 5:00 – 9:00 at Lifepoint Church.  ALL cast and crew are called.  Crew will be dismissed at 6:30.  We will be taking program photos at this rehearsal so come looking your best in a solid, dark shirt/blouse.  Also, bring a three ring binder for handouts, a pencil, a water bottle and a dinner or snack.  Please wear shoes suitable for dancing and make sure your clothing meets the Journey dress code. 

Friday the 11th is also our first parent meeting.  This is a REQUIRED meeting for cast parents.  Crew parents are welcome and if you are new, you will find it very helpful.  Our meeting is also at Lifepoint and will be from 6:30 – 9:00.

We will be checking out scripts to cast members who need them.  Please be prepared to make a $25 deposit for a script.  We also hope to be checking out rehearsal CD’s at the first rehearsal as well.  The deposit for a rehearsal CD is $5 and EVERYONE needs to get one.

Annie Warbucks Callbacks!


Great job everyone!   EVERYONE who auditioned is called back from 9:00 – 10:30.  Please read down the list to see if you are called beyond 10:30.

Callbacks are at Lifepoint Church, enter through the back door.  Please wear clothes you can dance in and shoes with closed toes.  Bring a sweatshirt, as it is cool in the building, a water bottle and a lunch/snack if you are staying all day.  See you all tomorrow!

Building Entry for Auditions and Call Backs

Please use the back door entry to Lifepoint Church for auditions today and call backs tomorrow.  This is also the office entrance.  Thank you!

Auditions Today!

Auditions for Annie Warbucks are today (1/4) at Lifepoint Church.  Sign in between 4:00 and 7:00.  Remember to bring the following forms:

Audition Form
Parent Committee Form
Costumes Form
Medical Release Form.

Make sure forms have parent signatures where necessary.  Consider your calendar and conflicts well and note them on your audition form.

Also, DOG AUDITIONS will be immediately following cast auditions.

3-2-1- Movie Night with HYPE!


As announced at our first class day, HYPE will be hosting 3-2-1 Movie Night next weekend.  Movies are family friendly!  You can come in your jammies and bring a pillow too!  

Date:  Saturday, January 12th
Time:  6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Location:  First Church of God
Cost:  $3 dollars (includes 2 movies, free popcorn and water); other snacks available for 50 cents and $1
Permission Slip:  A signed permission slip is required at the door.  Please make sure that a parent or adult signs the permission slip before the student is dropped off.
